Another A Cappella Oscar for Amarcord

amarcordAmarcord is the proud owner of a total of six Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, the so-called “a capella oscar”. The quintet received this international award for their album “Folks & Tales“ in the category Best Folk/World Album 2014. The highest honour in this genre was awarded at a gala in Boston on Friday night.

For their album Folks & Tales, Amarcord collected the world’s most beautiful folk songs during their concerts in more than 50 countries – the outcome is a journey from Cuba via Ghana, Russia, and Thailand to Japan and Australia. The arrangements, which are influenced by pop, jazz, and classical music, are perfectly tailored to the ensemble and awaken longings for faraway countries while capturing traditions and stories of different nations – always featuring Amarcord’s inimitable style: a mix of vocal brilliance, a homogenous and warm sound, and a healthy dose of charm and humor. Seemingly effortless, the quintet juggles the chants of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, the European Romanticism, and the Modern Age, as well as folk songs and Jazz standards.

Two ECHO Classical awards and six Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, the “a capella oscar”, are proof of the vocalists’ successful career. Some of their exceptional productions include “Die Motetten“ (“The Motets”, Sony) with the Lautten Compagney, “Folks & Tales“ (RK ap 10213), “Rastlose Liebe – ein Spaziergang durch das romantische Leipzig” (“Restless Love – A Walk through Romantic Leipzig”), and “The Book of Madrigals“. At the end of August 2014, Claudio Monteverdi’s Marienvesper together with the Lautten Compagney will be released on the Carus label.
